"Lanyards Can Let You Down" Article Featured in OHS Magazine |
|
In the April issue of Occupational Health & Safety
magazine, an article "Shock-Absorbing Lanyards Can Let You Down" by Hugh
Smith, Product Marketing Leader, Americas, addresses the advantages of
using personal fall limiters over traditional shock-absorbing lanyards.
The article highlights one company's commitment to reducing fall
hazards by equipping 150 workers with personal fall limiters in a move
that will eventually outlaw lanyards on the job site. All employees,
contractors and sub-contractors will be required to comply with the new
policy, which incorporates rigorous hands-on training and inspection,
and encourages people to take personal responsibility for their own
safety.
The primary driver of their decision to change out lanyards for PFLs,
safety managers tell us, is fall arrest clearance, which is critical to
worker safety.

Miller Turbo T-BAK Personal Fall Limiter Wins the GOLD! |
|
The new Miller Turbo T-BAK Tie-Back Personal Fall Limiter (PFL) was awarded the 2010 Gold Award
through Plant Engineering's Product of the Year Awards. The
announcement was made during the Manufacturing/Automation Summit held in
Chicago, March 20-21, where the Turbo T-BAK was recognized as a Gold
Award recipient under the safety category. New product innovations are
voted on each year by the readers of Plant Engineering magazine.
This year's product finalists attacked some of the most pressing and
challenging issues in manufacturing – energy efficiency, plant floor
maintenance, automation systems and safety. These four core principles
of effective manufacturing are also the most difficult areas for many
manufacturers to address.

Urgent! Miller Fall Protection Responds to Recent Safety Bulletin |

Ask the Expert: Multiple Connections to a Harness Back D-Ring? |
|
Q: I have two shock-absorbing lanyards, can I attach both of the end connectors to a single harness back D-ring for 100% tie-off?
A: Sperian Safety at Height does not recommend attaching two
connectors (locking snap hooks, carabiners, etc.) from two separate
connecting devices (shock-absorbing lanyards, fall limiters or
self-retracting lifelines) to the same back D-ring on any Miller® brand
harness. A variety of Miller double-leg options, however, have been
specially developed for both shock-absorbing lanyards and retractables
for 100% tie-off fall protection.
